Shopping Day!

On Friday, 22th April 2016, five of us (Khadijah, Nadhwah, Alya, Fatin, and Atirah) went to GM Klang and Giant Subang (mainly the D.I.Y shop) to do some shopping for the ULC and Al-Ansaar kids. Our journey began at 12.30pm and end at 10pm.

The reason why we chose both places is because it is quite cheaper compared to other malls in KL area. Plus GM Klang is a wholesaler and Giant Subang is a hypermarket so there will be a lot of choices there and we can compare the prices as well.

Things we bought during that day include a number stationery sets, a coloring book, and about 130 packs of snacks such as biscuits and chocolates that are well-packed and ready to use as gifts.

We hope the kids in ULC and Al-Ansaar Learning Centre will love all the gifts and we're looking forward to spend our time with them in this 29th April, 30th April, and 1st May!!

Meeting with Teacher Salina

As planned, on Wednesday (13/4), representative of the organising committee, Li Yang, Khadijah and Miza met with Teacher Salina from Al-Ansaar Learning Centre in Ampang Point. The purpose of the meeting with Teacher Salina is to discuss about the activities that will be conducted in the Centre and materials needed. Teacher Salina gave a positive response with feedbacks and comments. We would take her feedback into consideration to make our project aligned with the need of the community that we are engaged in.

Stay tune for more updates on our project!

Site Visit: Al-Ansaar Learning Centre and United Learning Centre (12/4)

On Tuesday (12/4), Lau Li Yang (Organising Chairperson) and Khadijah Maarof (Head of Activities) went to visit the location for our social engagement project. As planned, the project will be held in two locations; United Learning Centre on Friday and Al-Ansaar Learning Centre on Saturday and Sunday. The reason for this site-survey is so that we can have a better idea about the location's environment and to evaluate whether the planned activities can appropriately and suitably conducted in both target location.

Al-Ansaar Learning Centre is a non-profit community school run by dedicated volunteers for refugee children in Malaysia aged from 3-13 years. Classes in this centre is conducted every Saturdays and Sundays. They are usually around 11 students on Saturday and 18 pupils on Sunday. Though the facilities provided in this school are far behind from the formal schools in Malaysia, the sincerity and dedication of teachers and volunteers could always help to lighten the children's future.

A similar case can be found in United Learning Centre. Located in the heart of the city, the centre is also providing education for refugees with the help of dedicated volunteers. The number of students in this centre are much larger compared to the Al-Ansaar.

On top of the site visit, we have arranged a meeting with Teacher Salina on Wednesday (13/4) to discuss more on the planned activities, materials needed, preparation as well as expectations from both side. We hope, our project will run smoothly as planned, and we can engage the community and impact them positively.

Organising Committee (AJK) Meeting (7/4)

Last Thursday, we held another meeting to discuss about site-visit, especially on when and who would be going to check Al-Ansaar Learning Centre and United Learning Centre (ULC). Besides that, we also finalise the sponsorship letter (Surat Tajaan) and discussed on whom we should ask sponsorship letter from.

On top of that, we also discussed on the activities and materials needed to do the activities we planned as well as task division among committee members.

Meeting with Project Advisor (6/4)

Last Wednesday the project committee conducted a meeting with our advisor, Madam Wan Sharina. We brought up and discussed about our proposal. Madam Wan Sharina gave some comments and advices on our project. She stressed us the importance of location survey and reminded us about the basic requirements of the course, especially the fulfilment of credit hours. She also advised us to go for a site-visit to check and know more about the location.

After reviewing our proposal, she generally agreed with and approved the proposal though there are some minimal corrections. The committee then presented the proposed plan and steps in preparing the project.

We hope our project will goes well as planned! :)

A New Beginning: Urgent Meeting and Location Change!

Hi all!

Lately, we had been getting a very slow response from PPUM. Their staff could not be reached. Furthermore there are many restrictions they impose if we would to organise our activities there. We had other problems too. This made us to think about alternative location for us to proceed with out Social Engagement Project.

Because of the problems, our Project Director, Li Yang, called for an urgent meeting last Friday (1/4) at UM Main Library to discuss about alternative plan and make some adjustment to our proposal.

In the meeting, Miza came out with an idea to go to a AlAnsaar Madrasah Rohingyas Refugee School where Rohingya refugees kids are studying. As the Madrasah has just been renovated and they will only re-open by this week, they need a lot of helps. They are more than happy for us to engage with the Rohingya kids and the Madrasah communities.

In the meeting, together as team we divided our tasks to adjust the proposal and the proposed activities so that it could fit our new plan. Because we were doing it together, we could finish our in a relatively short amount of time.

Thankfully, we could overcome this obstacle and challenges together, and hopefully, we would be able to overcome any other obstacles in the future as well, and make this project a success!

Ensemble, tout est possible.. Together, we can!
